I am currently considering the future of Dakota Fan and whether or not I shall continue with the site. It requires a lot of time and effort, and to be honest I’m struggling to find reasons to continue with it.

 

Feedback from fans has been negligible during the 18 months the site has been in existence, and I believe the majority don’t really want a site that concentrates on Dakota’s film work.

 

In addition, my numerous attempts to get some feedback from Dakota have fallen on stony ground. I am increasingly of the opinion that she is not interested in fan sites, no matter how sincere and well-meaning they may be. I have tried to explain that my goal was to counteract the gossip and seedy stories and pictures that dominate search results, and have even asked if she would prefer me not to continue with this project. The last thing I want is to produce a web site that Dakota herself does not approve of. I always made it very clear that I would never disclose the source of any information or comment on (ie confirm or deny) any aspect of my involvement with her or her representatives. I’m confirming now that there has been NO involvement, thereby breaking my own rule perhaps, simply to explain my current dilemma.

 

I have specifically asked Dakota and her agents in multiple and separate communications over the course of the past 18 months if there was anything on my web sites that they would like removed, or anything that should be included. Neither Dakota or her agency have responded to any of these requests. I felt I was trying to help in some small way by offering to publish information that she wanted her fans to have, and omit anything she didn’t want shared.

 

As a devoted and caring fan, and a responsible adult, I am disappointed that Dakota and her representatives seemingly allow all sorts of personal and often unpleasant articles to be published on the web (I have advised them of such content where I felt it overstepped the boundaries of decency or invaded her privacy - there has never been any response or action taken, to my knowledge) and yet did not take the opportunity to work in some small way with me to address the balance.

 

Of course it is entirely possible that Dakota knows nothing of this, and there are so many people working with her that I have no way of knowing if any of my emails and letters reached the person they were intended for. Perhaps Dakota will read this and let me know one way or the other if she actually approves of web sites like mine* - I live in hope! This page will remain here until February 2013, so there is plenty of time for her or someone near her to stumble across it, and send me a message - in confidence: whatever happens I will not be revealing any responses to this page.
